Huntingdon SAAC holds fundraiser for Flint water crisis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held a relay on Tuesday in effort to donate water for the Flint, Mich. water crisis.

The SAAC invited the student-body and athletic teams out to The Green on Huntingdon's campus for a four-stage relay that involved teams of six competing in a mixture of activities. Members of the women's basketball team took home the win.

"I was shocked with the turnout for today's event," SAAC president Dantavius Washington said. "It was great to see members from different teams and members of Student Life come out and support an important cause. The water crisis in Flint really stuck out to me and this was a great way to try to support the people in Flint.

"I want to give a big shout out to the members of the SAAC, Student Life and coach Latonia Brady and coach Mary Willis. They helped put together this event and I couldn't have asked for anything else from them."

Over 600 bottles of water were donated to the cause. The SAAC has teamed with the Salvation Army and will donate the water to the city of Flint.

SAAC advisor Latonia Brady was delighted with the turnout.

"I am really thankful for the athletes and staff that came out and supported this event," Brady said. "Dantavius did such a great job putting this together and we couldn't have done it without him. We wanted to do this earlier in the year, but decided to wait for the seasons to finish."
