Volleyball, soccer and cross country arrive for preseason practice

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's volleyball, soccer and cross country coaches welcomed 112 student-athletes to campus on Wednesday for the start of preseason practice.

Practice for each team begins on Thursday. Each team will have 15 days before the first competition.

Men's and Women's Cross Country

This fall marks the first season of competition for the cross country program since 2012. First-year head coach Dan August will begin preseason practice with seven runners on the men's team and six runners on the women's team.

Both teams open the season in the JSU Strut's Season Opener on Sept. 1.

Women's Soccer

Second-year head coach Matt Gill has 36 players ready for the first day of practice. Among the group are seven returning players and 29 first-year players.

The Lady Hawks open the season on the road against Centenary on Sept. 1.

Men's Soccer

Third-year head coach Matt Cooper will be working with 37 players during preseason camp. Cooper's squad features 11 returning players and 26 newcomers.

Men's soccer will host Huntingdon's first home game of the season in any sport when Mississippi University for Women comes to town on Sept. 1. This will be the first season of competition for MUW's men's soccer program.

Volleyball

A total of 26 players are set to take the court for the start of preseason practice. Third-year head coach Latonia Brady returns 12 players from 2016 to go with 14 newcomers. Volleyball opens the season in Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 1 against Lakeland.
