Young and Tarver named USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Two Huntingdon football players were named USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Placekicker Chase Young was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and linebacker Linell Tarver was named the Defensive Rookie of the Week. This is the third time Tarver has been recognized as the Defensive Rookie of the Week and the second time Young has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

In a 27-7 win over Averett, Young was 2-for-3 on field goals. He connected on a career-long 40-yard field goal and a 24-yard kick. His only miss was a 45-yard attempt that was wide left. Young was also 3-for-3 on extra points and had four touchbacks on six kickoffs.

For the season, Young is second overall in the conference in scoring with 50 points. He has converted 8-of-10 field goals and is 26-for-26 on extra points in six games

Tarver recorded six tackles against Averett and was part of a defensive effort that held the Cougars scoreless until the fourth quarter. For the season, the freshman is the Hawks' third leading tackler with 37 stops.
