Harp named USA South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Juliette Harp was selected as one of the USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.                        

In the first weekly awards for basketball season, Harp was named the Player of the Week for women's basketball. In three wins to open the season, Harp averaged 15.3 points per game and 15.3 rebounds per game and totaled eight blocks and three assists.

Harp opened the season with 15 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two assists in 19 minutes of action in a 90-45 win over Pensacola Christian. In her second game, Harp set Huntingdon's NCAA-era single-game record with 22 rebounds in a 62-56 win over Rust College. Harp also had 21 points and four blocks in the game.

Harp closed the three-game stretch with her third double-double, recording 10 points and 14 rebounds to go with two blocks and one assist in a 73-57 win over Bob Jones University.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Torell Carter, Berea - The freshman guard from Whitesburg, Kentucky averaged a triple-double of 19.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game as the Mountaineers posted a 2-0 record last week to open the season. In a 68-53 win over Spalding, Carter notched his first career triple-double with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists. He also added three steals in the victory. In a 97-91 win over Johnson University, Carter tallied a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds to go along with eight assists. Juliette Harp, Huntingdon - The Chattanooga, Tenn., senior forward averaged a double-double of 15.3 points and 15.3 rebounds to go along with 1.0 assists per game as the Hawks posted a 3-0 record last week. Harp posted a double-double in each of the three contests. In a 90-45 win over Pensacola Christian, Harp totaled 15 points, ten rebounds and two assists. In a 62-56 victory over Rust, Harp contributed 21 points and 22 rebounds. Finally, in a 73-57 victory over Bob Jones, Harp scored ten points, grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out one assist. Jalexus Mitchell, Ferrum - The Martinsville, Virginia freshman guard scored 13 points, grabbed two rebounds, collected two steals and dished out one assist in a 72-56 victory over Roanoke in the team's only action last week.
