Harp recognized as USA South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Juliette Harp was recognized as the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. 

This is the second straight week Harp has earned the recognition. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 23 points, 16.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 assists in two games last week. 

In a 73-60 loss to Louisiana College, Harp scored 19 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, blocked three shots, made two assists and had one steal. In a 70-58 win over LeTourneau, she totaled 27 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks and three assists.                 

For the season, Harp has recorded five double-doubles in five games and is averaging 18.4 points, 15.8 rebounds and three blocks per game.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Alex Bonner, LaGrange - The senior guard from Griffin, Georgia averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Panthers posted a 1-1 record last week. In an 84-78 win over 17th-ranked Emory, Bonner totaled 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal. In a 66-63 loss to Oglethorpe, Bonner scored 17 points with seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. Also Nominated: James Contreras Jr., Averett; Davion Ayabarreno, Methodist; Joseph Gatling, Greensboro; Patjo Twagirayezu, Covenant.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Montre' Cash, Averett - The freshman guard from Rocky Mount, North Carolina scored ten points and grabbed six rebounds in an 82-69 win over 18th-ranked Guilford in the team's only contest last week. Cash also added two assists and one steal in the victory. Also Nominated: None.

 

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Juliette Harp, Huntingdon - The Chattanooga, Tenn., senior forward averaged a double-double of 23.0 points and 16.5 rebounds to go along with 3.5 blocks and 2.5 assists per game as the Hawks posted a 1-1 record last week. Harp posted a double-double in each of the two contests. In a 73-60 loss to Louisiana College, Harp totaled 19 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal. In a 70-56 victory over LeTourneau, Harp contributed 27 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kayla Goldsmith, Methodist - The Manning, South Carolina freshman forward scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and collected one steal in a 70-55 loss to second-ranked Christopher Newport in the team's only contest last week. Also Nominated: Mekhia Wright, Averett.
