Harp named USA South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon's Juliette Harp was recognized as the USA South Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

This is the third time the 6-foot-2 senior has received the recognition this season.

Harp earned the recognition for her performance in a 71-48 win over Methodist and a 62-57 loss to Greensboro. Harp averaged 20.5 points, 16.5 rebounds and one block in the two games.

In the win over Methodist, Harp became just the fourth Lady Hawk to reach 1,000 career points. She finished the game with 23 points and 19 rebounds to record her 10th double-double of the season. Against Greensboro, Harp turned in the 40th double-double of her career with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Harp's performance pushed her career scoring total to 1,026 points and her career rebound total to 846. She is the Lady Hawks' fourth leading scorer during the NCAA era and needs 23 rebounds to become the program's leading rebounder during the NCAA era. 

For the season, Harp is averaging 18.1 points and 15.3 rebounds per game and has totaled 32 blocked shots. She leads the USA South in total points (217), total rebounds (184) and is second in the conference in blocked shots.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Juliette Harp, Huntingdon - The senior forward from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 16.5 rebounds to go along with one block per game as Huntingdon posted a 1-1 record. In a 71-48 win over Methodist, Harp became the fourth player in program history to tally her 1,000th-career point as she notched a double-double of 23 points and 19 rebounds to go along with one assist and one block. In a 62-57 loss to Greensboro, Harp again posted a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds while adding one steal and one assist. Also Nominated: Jatasia Bailey, Piedmont; Samm Chandler, Averett; Katie Lewis, Greensboro; Zarkia Mattox, Ferrum; Bekah Walter, Covenant.                                                         

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Raegine Newkirk, Piedmont - The freshman forward from East Lansing, Michigan averaged 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Lions posted a 2-0 record over winter break, In a 90-68 win over Greensboro, Newkirk totaled two points and two rebounds. In an 82-42 win over Methodist, Newkirk posted six points and five rebounds.
