Three Hawks earn USA South Athlete of the Week honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three Huntingdon student-athletes were named USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Bradley Harris was named Rookie of the Week for baseball, Sam Hitt was named Defensive Player of the Week for men's lacrosse and Josie Waddell was named Player of the Week for women's tennis.

Harris is the first Huntingdon baseball player to be recognized this season. The freshman from Hueytown, Ala., batted .533 (8-for-15) with three runs and an RBI in four games last week. Harris had a hit, a double and a run in a 13-7 loss to Adrian College. In a three-game series with LaGrange, Harris was 3-for-5 with an RBI in a 9-2 win, 1-for-3 with a run in a 6-3 win and 3-for-4 with a run in a 9-3 loss.

Hitt's selection as Defensive Player of the Week marks the fourth time in four weeks that at least one Huntingdon men's lacrosse player has been recognized. Hitt, a junior from Finksburg, Md., was also named Defensive Player of the Week in the first lacrosse awards of the season on Feb. 12.

In a 9-7 win over Ferrum last week, Hitt scored one goal, was 14-for-19 on faceoffs and had 11 ground balls. The win pushed the Hawks record to 6-0. The 6-0 start is the best in the seventh-year program's history and is the longest winning streak in program history.

Waddell, a junior from Tuscumbia, Ala., is the first Huntingdon women's tennis player to be recognized this season. She was recognized for her performance at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in an 8-1 win over Agnes Scott, a 9-0 win over Louisiana College and a 7-2 loss to Millsaps.

Against Agnes Scott, Waddell won 6-2, 6-4 in singles and teamed with Zoya Robinson to win 8-1 in doubles. In the win over Louisiana College, Waddell won 8-0 in singles and teamed with Robinson to win 8-1 in doubles. In the loss to Millsaps, Waddell fell 6-0, 6-1 in singles and lost 8-4 with Robinson in doubles.

For the season, Waddell is 4-2 in singles and is 5-1 with Robinson in doubles.
