Trio of Hawks named USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three Huntingdon student-athletes were recognized as USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Adrian Harper was named Player of the Week for men's lacrosse, Sam Hitt was named Defensive Player of the week for men's lacrosse and Kacy Howard was named Player of the Week for women's tennis.

This is the first time Harper and Howard have been recognized this season and the third time Hitt has been selected. This is the sixth time in seven weeks that at least one Huntingdon men's lacrosse player has been chosen.

Harper accounted for nine points in three games last week, finishing with eight goals and one assist. Harper scored three goals in a 13-5 win over North Central College before recording three goals and an assist in a 6-4 win against Piedmont. Harper scored two of the first four goals against Piedmont as the Hawks tied their program record with the 10th win of the season. In the final game of the week, a 10-8 loss to Pfeiffer, Harper had two goals and four ground balls.  

Hitt, was 38-for-52 on faceoffs last week and had 25 ground balls in three games. Against North Central College, Hitt was 16-for-18 on faceoffs and recorded 11 ground balls. He was 5-for-12 on faceoffs against Piedmont and picked up four ground balls. In his final game of the week, Hitt was 17-for-22 on faceoffs and had 10 ground balls. He is among the Division III leaders with 155 faceoffs won this season.

Howard is the second Huntingdon women's tennis player to be named Player of the Week this season. She was 4-0 last week at No. 1 singles and 4-0 in doubles. In a 9-0 win over LaGrange, Howard won 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 in singles and teamed with Clayton Waring for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

In a 9-0 win against Berea, she won 6-0, 6-0 in singles and paired with Heather Tabor for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. In a 9-0 victory against Maryville, Howard won 6-2, 6-2 in singles and teamed with Tabor for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. In the final match of the week, a 9-0 win against Rust College, Howard won 8-0 in singles and, with Waring as her partner, won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
