Thomas named USA South Athlete of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon's Eric Thomas was selected as one of the USA South Athletic Conference's Athletes of the Week on Monday.

The sophomore running back was named the Offensive Player of the Week for football.

Thomas earned the recognition with his performance in a 41-35 loss to Birmingham-Southern. Thomas led Huntingdon with 285 all-purpose yards, including 158 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 16 carries.

Thomas, who averaged 9.9 yards per carry, rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter and had 116 yards rushing at the half. He scored his first touchdown on a 23-yard run and added a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the second half. He also averaged 25.4 yards on five kickoff returns for 127 yards.

Thomas' 127 yards on kickoff returns were the third most in Huntingdon history. His 285 all-purpose yards were also the third most in program history and just three yards short of the program record.
