Bio

Latonia Brady joined the Huntingdon coaching staff as the head indoor volleyball coach in January 2015 and helped begin the beach volleyball program with its first season of competition in 2017.

As the Hawks’ indoor volleyball coach, Brady has guided Huntingdon to 90 wins in her first five seasons and the program’s first four appearances in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. As one of the first Division III beach volleyball programs, Brady’s Hawks have increased their win total in each of their first four seasons.

Inheriting an indoor program that won just 12 matches in the two seasons before she arrived, Brady led the Hawks to 15 wins in her first season, a conference tournament appearance in her second season and a winning record in her third season. Entering the 2020 season, Huntingdon has put together three straight winning seasons with back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2018 and 2019. In 2022 she guided the Hawks to a Conference Runner-Up title with a record of 28-9. The 20-win season in 2018 was the first for Huntingdon since 2005.

The 2022 team produced a 28-9 record and hosted the inaugural first round of the CCS Tournament against Piedmont University. After defeating the Lions the Hawks moved on to the semi-final and took down Maryville to advance to the championship against #1 seeded Covenant. The Hawks fell but secured the Runner-Up title and held AVCA Academic Awards and had three players earn All-Conference selections. In beach the team finished 4th in the AVCA Tournament and had two receive AVCA Top Flight Awards. The team also was awarded the AVCA Academic Award for the season.

In 2019, Huntingdon reached the USA South Tournament semifinals for the first time and finished with a 23-15 record. The 23 wins were the most for the Hawks since at least 2006. The Hawks won 15-of-17 matches during one stretch of the season, including an eight-match winning streak and a seven-match winning streak. The eight consecutive wins marked the longest winning streak in more than a decade.

The 2019 team produced the program’s first USA South Player of the Year (Amy Tyma), one All-Conference selection and four USA South West Division selections. Tyma’s selection as honorable mention South Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association marked the Hawks’ first All-Region recognition of the NCAA era.

The 2018 team reached the USA South Tournament quarterfinals and finished with a 21-12 record. In addition to reaching 20 wins for the first time since 2005 and putting together a seven-match winning streak, the season marked Huntingdon’s first-back-to-back winning seasons since 2008 and 2009. The team featured the program’s first All-Conference player (Tyma) as well as four USA South West Division selections.

In 2017, the Hawks put together their first winning season (19-18) since 2009, reached the USA South Tournament quarterfinals and produced two USA South West Division players. .

In 2016, Huntingdon’s fourth season in the USA South, the Hawks were 12-23, qualified for the conference tournament for the first time and were recognized with their first USA South West Division player (Audrianna Hargitt).

Brady’s first Huntingdon team put together a 15-20 record in 2015 and won nine of its final 13 matches.

In addition to their success on the court, the volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. The beach volleyball team was also recognized by the AVCA for the 2019-20 school year. A total of 71 indoor volleyball and beach volleyball players have been named Academic All-Conference by the USA South during Brady’s five seasons.

In four seasons of beach volleyball competition, as one of the only Division III programs competing in the sport, Huntingdon has primarily faced Division I, Division II and NAIA opponents each season.

Despite the 2020 season being cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, the beach volleyball program won five of its first 11 matches to set a new mark for victories in a season for the young program. The program won two matches during its first season in 2017, three matches in 2018 and four matches in 2019.

Before Huntingdon, Brady coached at the Division II level and in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Brady spent the 2014 season at Emmanuel College, where she helped the fourth-year program transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. The Lions were 12-16 during their first season in Division II and led the Conference Carolinas in blocks per set and were second in total blocks. Five of her players earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Prior to Emmanuel, Brady served as head volleyball coach, head athletic trainer and adjunct professor at Tennessee Temple. She also served as the NCCAA Mid-East Region Chair.

Brady began her coaching career at Division II Davis & Elkins College. Coming off of an eight-win season in 2007, she helped lead the Senators to back-to-back 20-win seasons. She led her team to a pair of first-round victories in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, including the first conference tournament win in program history.

Brady earned her master’s degree in athletic training at California University of Pennsylvania and her bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Alderson Broaddus College.

At Alderson Broaddus, she was a two-time All-Region performer, four-time All-Conference selection, conference Freshman of the Year and conference Player of the Year.
