Bio

Charlie Goodyear is the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance.  Goodyear came to Huntingdon College in 2004, and has played an integral role in establishing both strength & conditioning and football as well respected programs within the college landscape.  Goodyear created the strength department from its inception, and has consistently developed athletes and teams that perform at a high level. Since 2012, Goodyear has overseen all aspects of strength & conditioning for the Hawks’ 21 sports. He has produced 43 National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-Americans since 2011, and has led the preparation for numerous team and individual championships, as well as NCAA National Playoff appearances. He is tasked with the preparation of more than 500 student-athletes, and managing the two training facilities.

Goodyear is a USAW Advanced Weightlifting & USAW Sports Performance coach, USTFCCCA Advanced Strength & Conditioning Coach, CrossFit certified trainer, Tactical Athlete Kettlebell Instructor and holds specialty certifications in Olympic lifting, Mobility, and Powerlifting. He presents at various conferences and clinics, and is a consultant to numerous regional athletic programs, as well as Special Forces units within SOCOM. Goodyear authored the Air Force Combatives Program (AFCP) Combat Fitness Module, and is an AFCP Master Instructor & Course Director. He is also a licensed MMA & Boxing Trainer with the Alabama Athletic Commission.

Goodyear joined Huntingdon College as the offensive line coach for football in 2004, and became the program's strength & conditioning coach in 2005.  During 11 seasons as the Hawks' offensive live coach, his group paved the way for the top-ranked offense in Division III twice in five seasons.  One of those seasons the offense set the then All-Time NCAA record for Total Offense.  In two seasons in the USA South Athletic Conference (2013 & 2014) and one season in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (2008), Goodyear prepped 3 All-South Region offensive linemen, 7 All-Conference selections, 11 Academic All-Conference selections and 11 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society selections.

Prior to Huntingdon, Goodyear spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Troy University working with all facets of the football program.

As a student-athlete, Goodyear spent the 2000 & 2001 seasons playing football at Troy State University.  In 2000 he was a part of winning the Southland Conference Championship, and in 2001 he played in every game for the Trojans during their inaugural Division I-A season. Prior to Troy, he was an offensive lineman at the University of Tennessee-Martin, where he started 28 of 33 career games and was voted team captain as a junior in 1999.

Goodyear had a stellar prep career as a defensive end at Jeff Davis High School in Montgomery, where his team won the 6A State Championship his senior season and was 6A runner-up his junior season. As a senior, he was voted All-State and was selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All Star game.

Goodyear earned his M.S. in Adult Education from Troy University, and his B.S. in Social Science & Health Science from Troy State University.

Coach Goodyear is married to the former Kyana Neller, a professional ballet dancer and the school director of the Alabama River Region Ballet. They have a son, Torian Charles, and 3 daughters; Scarlett Louise, Ruby Elizabeth, and Rose Noelle.
