Huntingdon falls twice on Day 1 of Eckerd College Battle on the Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The first-year Huntingdon beach volleyball team lost to a pair of Division I teams on Friday during the first day of Eckerd College's Battle on the Bay.

The Hawks lost to Jacksonville State 5-0 and fell to Florida International University 5-0.

Against second-year Jacksonville State (4-15), Huntingdon's No. 1 team of Alexis Creasman and Bria Rochelle lost 21-13, 21-12 and the No. 2 team of Audrianna Hargitt and Shelby Young fell 21-15, 21-14.

The No. 3 team of Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman lost 21-5, 21-9, the No. 4 team of Devyn Stringer and Gabby Hughes lost 21-3, 21-10 and the No. 5 team of Kaitlyn Carter and Samm Mamon lost 21-12, 21-14.

In their second match, the Hawks (1-8) took on fifth-year FIU (11-6). The Panthers are not ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Top 15 national poll, but are the second team among the others receiving votes.

Against FIU, the No. 1 team of Creasman-Rochelle fell 21-8, 21-15 and the No. 2 team of Hargitt-Young lost 21-12, 21-13. The No. 3 team of DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-2, 21-3, the No. 4 team of Stringer-Hughes lost 21-3, 21-5 and the No. 5 team of Carter-Mamon lost 21-2, 21-2.

Huntingdon returns to action in the Battle on the Bay on Saturday. The Hawks are scheduled to play 14th-ranked Division I Florida Atlantic, first-year Division I program Morehead State and third-year Division II Eckerd.
