Huntingdon competes in beach volleyball tri-match

MOBILE, Ala. – The Huntingdon beach volleyball team took on two in-state opponents in a tri-match at Spring Hill College on Friday.

The Hawks faced third-year Division II Spring Hill twice and the University of Mobile club team once. First-year Huntingdon fell 5-0 in each match.

In the first match with Spring Hill (9-12), Huntingdon's No. 1 team of Audrianna Hargitt and Shelby Young battled but fell 21-18, 21-15. The No. 2 team of Alexis Creasman and Bria Rochelle lost 21-9, 21-17, the No. 3 team of Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman lost 21-10, 21-7, the No. 4 team of Gabby Hughes and Devyn Stringer lost 21-7, 21-7 and the No. 5 team of Samm Mamon and Bethann Bullard lost 21-9, 21-10.

Against Mobile, Huntingdon went to three sets in four of the five matches. Hargitt-Young came up short 14-21, 26-24, 13-15 in the No. 1 match, DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-17, 18-21, 9-15 in the No. 3 match, Hughes-Stringer fell 22-20, 16-21, 14-16 in the No. 4 match and Mamon-Bullard lost 22-20, 18-21, 12-15 in the No. 5 match. The No. 2 team of Creasman-Rochelle lost 21-10, 21-19.

In the final match with Spring Hill, Hargitt-Young fell 21-11, 21-18 at No. 1, Creasman-Rochelle lost 21-11, 21-18 at No. 2, DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-8, 21-11 at No. 3, Kalen Morgan-Hughes lost 21-3, 21-7 at No. 4 and Mamon-Bullard lost 21-10, 21-16 at No. 5.

Young finished the day with 35 kills and 33 digs and Hargitt had 18 kills and 15 digs in the two Spring Hill matches and five blocks against Mobile. Creasman recorded 34 kills and 36 digs in the three matches and Rochelle had 17 kills and 40 digs.

DeVuyst totaled 14 kills and 31 digs for the day and Hillman had 22 kills and 59 digs. Hughes finished with 16 kills and 30 digs in three matches and Stringer had 18 kills and 25 digs in the first two matches of the day. Mamon recorded 31 kills and 31 digs and Bullard finished with eight kills and 21 digs.
