First-year Hawks earn second win to close out season

SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The Huntingdon beach volleyball team earned the second win of its inaugural season on the final day of the Rox Small College National Championships on Sunday.

The Hawks defeated NAIA St. Thomas 3-2, lost 4-1 to Division III Stevenson and dropped a pair of matches to junior college San Diego City College 5-0.   

Against St. Thomas, Huntingdon's No. 1 team of Audrianna Hargitt and Bria Rochelle won 21-16, 23-21, the No. 2 team of Shelby Young and Alexis Creasman won 21-17, 21-19 and the No. 5 team of Gabby Hughes and Devyn Stringer lost their first set 21-4 but rallied to win 21-18, 15-11.

The No. 3 team of Lexie DeVuyst and Alex Hillman fell 21-11, 21-11 and the No. 4 team of Bethann Bullard and Samm Mamon lost 21-15, 21-5.

In the opening match of the day, the team of Hargitt-Rochelle won by default while Young-Creasman fell 21-16, 13-21, 15-8. DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-4, 21-9, Bullard-Mamon lost 21-6, 21-6 and Hughes-Stringer fell 21-10, 21-14.

In the first match against San Diego, Young-Creasman fell 19-21, 21-15, 15-11. Hargitt-Rochelle lost 21-14, 21-19, DeVuyst-Hillman lost 21-8, 21-10, Mamon-Bullard lost 21-9, 21-13 and Stinger-Hughes lost 21-13, 21-11.

In the second match, Hargitt-Rochelle lost 21-17, 21-12 and Young-Creasman lost 21-17, 21-9. Hillman-DeVuyst fell 21-8, 21-9, Bullard-Mamon losr 21-8, 21-7 and Hughes-Stringer 21-15, 21-17.

Stats were not available for the first match against San Diego. For the day, Creasman finished with 46 digs, 37 kills and nine aces. She had 16 kills in the second loss to San Diego. Young had 48 digs, 25 kills and nine aces while Rochelle had 31 digs and 20 kills. In the win over St. Thomas, she had 25 digs.

DeVuyst tallied 41 digs and 15 kills, Hillman had 41 digs and 11 kills and Stringer had 26 digs, 27 kills and eight aces. Hughes had 23 digs, 17 kills and 11 aces, Hargitt had 12 digs, 17 kills and five blocks, Mamon had 20 digs and 11 kills and Bullard finished with 18 digs.
