Huntingdon’s Trey Smith named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior Trey Smith had four big games for the Huntingdon baseball team last week.
A game-winning home run marked the beginning of the left fielder's week and two home runs and eight RBIs highlighted the final three wins of the week. Smith's performance helped him earn a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. This is the second release of the Team of the Week this season.
"Trey had a strong week for us and this is a great recognition for him," Huntingdon baseball coach D.J. Conville said. "He's worked hard this season and it has shown early in the season. We've still got a lot of games ahead of us and we need him and the rest of the team to keep working hard."
For the week, Smith batted .750 (12-for-16) with 11 RBIs, 10 runs, three home runs and three stolen bases in four wins. He was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs and hit a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the ninth in a 7-5 win over Oglethorpe.
Huntingdon closed the week with a three-game series against Blackburn. The Montgomery native was 9-for-13 with two home runs, eight RBIs and seven runs in the series. He was 5-for-5 with a two-run homer in the second game of the series and hit a three-run homer in the final game of the series.
Smith and the Hawks open conference play this weekend at home against Covenant. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. on Friday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
