GSAC Sports Information

DECATUR, Ga.- Continuing their dominance of the Great South Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, Kevin Caldwell of Piedmont earns his second straight weekly honor after pitching a tough match-up with #1 Marietta College. Jordan Freeman of Huntingdon earns this week's Player of the Week after belting a grand slam for the Hawks last week. This is the sixth straight week Piedmont has earned Pitcher of the Week and the second straight for Huntingdon.

In his only game last week, Caldwell was brilliant for a second time against #1 Marietta. He took the tough-luck loss in a 1-0 duel, which saw the righty go 8 2/3 innings (one pitch away from a shutout), allowing just one run on four hits, three walks, recording three strikeouts. At one point he retired 15 straight hitters in order. In two starts against the reigning NCAA champs, Caldwell has gone 1-1 with a 0.59 ERA, striking out nine in 15.2 innings of work with a 0.86 WHIP.

Helping his team to a 2-1 record against Covenant over the weekend, Freeman earned his first player of the week honor this season. During those three games, Freeman batted .545 (6-for-11) with a grand slam, seven RBIs and five runs.

Piedmont plays host March 22-24 to conference opponent Covenant. The match up will open the conference season for the Lions. Huntingdon faces off Friday and Saturday with visiting Emory University in Montgomery, Ala. The Hawks currently sit first in the conference with a 16-5 overall, 2-0 conference record.
