Huntingdon baseball rallies for win over Vikings

ROME, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team overcame a rough start to knock off Berry 13-7 on Friday.

The Hawks (18-8) committed three errors and gave up five runs in the second inning. But Huntingdon overcame the five-run deficit with 15 hits and 13 runs in the final six innings.

Evan Agnew's three-run homer helped start the rally in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Tyler Blackwell's RBI single and Kevin Plyler's two-run single tied the game 6-6.

Huntingdon took the lead with five runs in the seventh inning. The Hawks opened the inning with three straight singles, including Joseph Odom's RBI single, to take a 7-6 lead. After a walk loaded the bases, Huntingdon freshman Jordan Freeman hit his second grand slam of the season to make it an 11-6 game.

Huntingdon's final two runs came on a Grant Brown double and a sacrifice fly by Odom.

Freeman finished with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. Jordan Green was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Trey Smith scored three runs. Brown, Odom and Plyler each had two hits. Brown and Odom each scored twice and Seth Currie scored once.

Joseph Fincher (2-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out six, walking one, allowing four hits and a run in 5 1/3 innings.

Huntingdon and Berry (11-15) play again on Saturday in a doubleheader. Game 1 is set for noon at Berry's Bowdoin Field.
