Hawks fall in bottom of the ninth at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in an 11-10 loss to Maryville on Sunday.

The Hawks (26-11), the No. 1 seed entering next week's Great South Athletic Conference tournament, finish conference play with a 9-3 record. Huntingdon took the first two games of the series with Maryville 13-7 and 12-3.

In Game 3, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third and led 10-7 in the top of the sixth. Leading 10-9 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Huntingdon hit a batter with the bases loaded to tie the game before Maryville's Cory Kopec hit an RBI single to end the game.

Grant Brown finished with four runs, two RBIs and two hits for the Hawks, Joseph Odom had three RBIs and Trey Smith drove in two runs, stole three bases and scored once. Chad Baxley had three hits, an RBI and a run and Seth Currie had two hits and scored twice. Evan Agnew and Tyler Blackwell each had an RBI and a run.

Tyler Spivey (1-1) took the loss in relief.

Huntingdon closes out the regular season at Posey Field on Tuesday. The Hawks host Point University at 5 p.m.
