Odom’s two home runs lead Hawks in win over Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Catcher Joseph Odom hit his sixth and seventh home runs of the season to highlight the Huntingdon baseball team's 12-3 win over Maryville on Saturday. Odom was one of five Hawks to record multiple hits and one of four Hawks with three hits.

In the first two games of the Maryville series, Huntingdon (26-10, 9-2 Great South Athletic Conference) has totaled 35 hits and 25 runs. Game 3 of the series is set for noon on Sunday.

In Saturday's win, Odom was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. His two-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Hawks a 6-2 lead. His solo home run in the ninth inning made it 8-3.

Grant Brown, Tyler Blackwell and Seth Currie each had three hits apiece. Brown was 3-for-6 with two RBIs, Blackwell was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs and Currie was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

An Odom single scored Blackwell for the first run of the game and Currie scored on a throwing error for a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Huntingdon went ahead 4-0 in the fourth as a Blackwell double scored Evan Agnew and Blackwell scored on a Currie single.

In the eighth inning, Blackwell singled to score Agnew and make it a 7-2 game. In the ninth inning, Odom's home run was the first of five runs. Austin White and Jordan Freeman both scored on an error to make it 10-3 before a double by Brown brought in Currie and Blackwell to close the scoring.

John Rice (3-2) picked up the win, striking out four, walking one, allowing four hits and one earned run in five innings. Caleb Cofield pitched four innings of relief, striking out three, walking one, allowing three hits and one earned run.
