Huntingdon baseball misses out on NCAA Regional bid

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee released the field of teams chosen for the 2012 postseason on Monday. Despite winning 30 games and winning the Great South Athletic Conference championship, Huntingdon was not one of the 56 teams selected to play in a Regional.

The Hawks end the season with a 30-12 record.

"It's disappointing for all of us," Huntingdon athletic director Buzz Phillips said. "Head coach D.J. Conville and his staff prepared this team and these players worked hard to win 30 games against a challenging schedule.

"We're proud of them for winning the conference championship. Unfortunately, when your conference doesn't have an automatic qualifier into the playoffs, this can happen. That's one of the many reasons we're excited to be joining the USA South. The promise of an automatic qualifier when you win conference is something we all look forward to."

Huntingdon will begin competition in the USA South Athletic Conference in the fall of 2013.
