Hawks shutout Oglethorpe in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Senior Craig Brown pitched a two-hitter and the Huntingdon baseball team pushed across eight runs to knock off Oglethorpe 8-0 in the home-opener at Posey Field on Friday night.

Brown (1-1) struck out four and walked four in eight innings. Junior Neil Lawler faced four batters and struck out one to close out the game in the ninth inning.

Junior Joseph Odom and seniors, Seth Currie, Austin White and Trey Smith led Huntingdon (2-2) at the plate. Odom was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs. Currie was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run and White was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run. Odom and Smith each hit solo home runs.

Odom's homer in the first inning, his second of the season, put the Hawks up 1-0. A Grant Brown sacrifice fly scored Currie to make it 2-0 in the third inning. Smith's first home run of the season made it 3-0 in the sixth inning.

The Hawks blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs on four hits and two Oglethorpe errors. A single by White scored Odom. With two outs, an Oglethorpe (0-1) error kept the inning alive.

Tyler Blackwell drove in Jordan Freeman and a two-run double by Currie scored Evan Agnew and White. Another Oglethorpe error allowed Blackwell to score.

Huntingdon and Oglethorpe play again at Posey Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
