Huntingdon baseball scores late to beat Franklin

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to knock off Franklin College 15-4 on Saturday.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Hawks (5-3) scored six runs to take control of the game. A two-run single by Grant Brown scored Jordan Freeman and Evan Agnew before Trey Smith drew a bases loaded walk to score Seth Currie and Brown scored on a balk. A two-run double by Keegan Lambeth scored Smith and Jospeh Odom to make it a 10-3 game.

In the seventh inning, Freeman scored on a wild pitch and Odom singled in Currie. Odom and Caleb Astin scored on a two-run triple by Trey Smith to make it 14-3 before a Lambeth single brought in Smith for the final run.

Brown scored two of the Hawks' first three runs. He scored on a balk in the first inning and an Astin double in the third inning. Astin scored on a sacrifice fly by Odom in the third inning.

Brown finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs and Astin was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Smith had two hits, three RBIs and two runs and Lambeth had two hits and three RBIs. Currie added two hits and three runs and Odom had two RBIs and two runs.

Craig Brown (2-1) picked up the win, striking out six, walking three and allowing five hits and three runs in six innings.

The game was one of three at Posey Field on Saturday. Franklin defeated Capital 7-4 in the first game of the day and Millsaps beat Capital 13-2 in the third game.

Play continues on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. with Franklin and Millsaps. Huntingdon plays Millsaps at 2:30 p.m. and the Hawks play Capital at 6 p.m.
