17th-ranked Hawks drop two at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss – The Huntingdon baseball team had opportunities on Friday but came up short in two games with Mississippi College.

The Hawks, ranked 17th by the American Baseball Coaches Association, lost the first game 4-3 in a shortened seven-inning game and dropped the second game 8-7 in 11 innings.

Huntingdon (16-8) struggled in the late innings of both games. Leading 3-2, Huntingdon gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to end Game 1. The Choctaws scored both runs on errors.

In Game 2, Huntingdon led 7-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Mississippi College (12-15) scored six runs to force extra innings and scored the winning run on an error in the 11th.

Evan Agnew and Keegan Lambeth led Huntingdon with two hits in Game 1. Agnew also had a RBI and a run. Tyler Blackwell had a RBI and Lambeth and Trey Smith each scored one run.

Joseph Fincher (1-2) took the loss in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Neil Lawler (1-1) took the loss in the second game in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Grant Brown drove in two runs and scored one run in Game 2 and Joseph Odom finished with three hits, a RBI and a run. Caleb Astin, Smith, Blackwell and Jordan Freeman each had two hits. Smith, Freeman and Austin White each had a RBI and Astin, Lambeth, Blackwell, Freeman and Agnew each scored one run.

Huntingdon and Mississippi College close out the three-game series with one game on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.
