17th-ranked Hawks come up short at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss – The Huntingdon baseball team got off to a good start on Saturday, but Mississippi College rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Hawks 6-5.

It was the third straight one-run loss to the Choctaws this weekend. Huntingdon, ranked 17th by the American Baseball Coaches Association, lost 4-3 and 8-7 (11 innings) on Friday.

Grant Brown led off the game with a solo home run as Huntingdon (16-9) batted around and took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The lead stood until the fifth inning.

Mississippi College (13-15) took advantage of three Huntingdon errors to score five runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. The Choctaws went ahead 6-4 in the sixth. Huntingdon answered with one run in the seventh, but could not close the gap.

Brown and Joseph Odom each had two hits, a RBI and a run for the Hawks. Trey Smith and Keegan Lambeth each had two hits and one run. Evan Agnew had two RBIs, Seth Currie had one RBI and Caleb Astin scored one run.

Starter Gavin Free (3-4) took the loss in 5 2/3 innings.

Huntingdon returns to Posey Field on Tuesday, hosting Millsaps at 4 p.m.
