Huntingdon baseball gets back on track against Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team got off to a slow start on Tuesday but bounced back for an 11-6 win over Millsaps at Posey Field.

The Hawks (17-9) gave up three runs in the first inning before rallying and taking the lead with a six-run third inning. Leading 8-6 in the seventh, Huntingdon opened the game up with one run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth.

Huntingdon finished with a season-high 18 hits as five Hawks combined for 15 hits, seven RBIs and seven runs.

Keegan Lambeth was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs and Grant Brown was 3-for-5 with two runs. Caleb Astin had a game-high four hits, drove in one run and scored one run. Evan Agnew finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run and Trey Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Joseph Odom, Austin White and Seth Currie each had a RBI and a run and Kevin Plyler scored one run.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, Lambeth doubled to score two runs and a RBI single by Smith tied the game. A RBI single by White gave the Hawks the lead before an Agnew double brought in another run and a Currie RBI made it 6-3.

A Smith single brought in one run in the fourth before Brown scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to make it 8-5. Leading by two runs in the seventh, Brown scored again when Lambeth drew a bases-loaded walk. A RBI single by Astin and a sacrifice fly by Odom closed the scoring in the eighth inning.

Joseph Fincher (2-2) picked up the win in four innings of relief. Fincher struck out five, walked one, gave up two hits and allowed one run. Fincher, Parker Adams, Mitchell Luckie and Neil Lawler combined for 11 strikeouts.

Huntingdon hosts Berry College in a three-game series this weekend. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Friday.
