Hawks rally in bottom of 10th for win over Point University

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team rallied to beat Point University 8-7 in 10 innings on Wednesday night.

It was the Hawks' 15th straight win at Posey Field. With three road games remaining this weekend, Huntingdon (28-9) closes the regular season with a 19-1 record at home this season.

In Wednesday's win, Trammell DeJarnett scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game 7-7 and Caleb Astin drew a bases-loaded walk to score Grant Brown in the bottom of the 10th for the win.

The Hawks, who played a total of 20 players in the game, built a 5-0 lead early before falling behind 7-6 in the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Cameron Lewis singled with one out and DeJarnett came in to run for Lewis. With two outs, DeJarnett stole second and advanced to third on an error before scoring on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Tyler Spivey (1-0) struck out two batters, allowed one hit and forced a ground out to get Huntingdon through the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the 10th, Brown was hit by a pitch and Jordan Green singled to put runners on first and second. Joseph Odom reached on an error by the leftfielder to bring Astin to the plate.

Green, Odom and Jordan Freeman each finished with two hits. Green had two runs and a RBI, Odom had a run and a RBI and Freeman scored once. Brown finished with two RBIs and two runs and Keegan Lambeth drove in two runs. Hunter Smith also scored a run.

Spivey, one of six Huntingdon pitchers to take the mound, allowed two hits and struck out four in the final two innings.

Huntingdon travels to LaGrange this weekend for a three-game series. Game 1 is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
