Huntingdon baseball earns 30th win of the season

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored four runs in the first three innings and got by LaGrange 4-3 on Saturday.

The win was the 30th of the season for the Hawks (30-9), marking the second straight 30-win season for Huntingdon. It was the second win over LaGrange (22-23) in a three-game series. Huntingdon won the first game 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday night. The two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Keegan Lambeth, Grant Brown and Trey Smith combined for seven of the Hawks' 10 hits on Saturday. Lambeth was 3-for-4 with a run scored, Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and two stolen bases and Brown was 2-for-4 with a run.

Joseph Odom singled to drive in Brown for the first run of the game and Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to score Caleb Astin and give the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Leading 2-1 in the third inning, Smith singled to score Lambeth and then scored on an error to make it 4-1.

LaGrange answered with a run in the fifth and one run in the bottom of the ninth.

Gavin Free (6-4) picked up the win, striking out six, walking three, scattering 10 hits and allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Parker Adams struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief before Neil Lawler earned his 10th save of the season in the final 1 1/3 innings. Lawler struck out one, allowed three hits and one run.
