MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Senior pitcher Craig Brown threw a two-hitter to lead the Huntingdon baseball team in the elimination round of the NCAA Division III South Regional on Thursday.

Brown (7-1) struck out five and walked two in nine innings as the Hawks shut out Randolph-Macon 5-0 on the second day of the South Regional. The win was the first postseason victory for the Huntingdon baseball program during the NCAA era.

Huntingdon (31-10) will face Bridgewater (33-12) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Randolph-Macon ends the season at (23-19-1).

"One of the best characteristics of this bunch is their toughness and their ability to bounce back when their backs are against the wall," Huntingdon head coach D.J. Conville said. "This is the first time these guys have been this far. We were a little tight on Wednesday and we missed some opportunities. But today, we came out with the right attitude and played the way we've played most of the season.

"We took advantage of some opportunities to score some runs and Craig was just awesome on the mound. His two-hitter was huge. Now we have to come back out on Friday with the same attitude we had today. We're going to play our game and try to find a way to get it done."

The Hawks scored two runs in the middle innings and added three runs in the eighth inning to put Randolph-Macon away. Huntingdon finished with eight hits and was able to take advantage of six Randolph-Macon errors.

Grant Brown was the only Hawk with multiple hits, finishing 3-for-5. Evan Agnew had two RBIs and Seth Currie had one RBI. Tyler Blackwell scored three runs and Keegan Lambeth and Austin White each scored once.

Huntingdon took a 1-0 lead in fourth inning when Blackwell scored on an Agnew double. Blackwell made it 2-0 in the sixth inning, when he stole third and scored on an error.

The Hawks took advantage of one hit and five Randolph-Macon errors to score three runs in the eighth inning. Lambeth doubled and later scored on an error. Blackwell scored on another error to make it 4-0 before Currie drew a bases-loaded walk to score White and make it a five-run game.
