Huntingdon baseball loses Game 3, but takes series from LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up three runs in the second inning and two runs in the middle innings of a 5-3 loss to LaGrange on Sunday.

Despite the loss, the Hawks (9-4, 5-1 USA South Athletic Conference) took the series with a 6-4 win on Friday and a 12-2 win on Saturday.

Senior right fielder Nathan Edwards was 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base to lead the Hawks and freshman catcher Austin Clanton drove in two runs.

Junior second baseman Jordan Freeman had two hits and a RBI, senior center fielder Trammell DeJarnett had two hits and freshman third baseman Will Pharis scored the Hawks' other run.

Trailing 3-0 in the second inning, Clanton doubled to score Edwards and Pharis. LaGrange (3-7, 1-2 USA South) answered and carried a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning. Edwards scored his second run of the game on a Freeman single to make it a two-run game.

Gavin Free (2-2) took the loss in 5 2/3 innings. Free struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits and four earned runs.

Huntingdon returns to action at Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
