Huntingdon baseball stumbles in first two games of series at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team dropped a pair of USA South Athletic Conference games on Sunday against Maryville. The Hawks lost 5-1 in the first game and fell 9-5 in Game 2.

Huntingdon (16-10, 11-6 USA South) and Maryville (11-11, 6-8 USA South) will wrap up the series with Game 3 on Monday at noon.

Second baseman Jordan Freeman hit two home runs in the second game and finished the doubleheader with three RBIs, two runs and two hits for the Hawks. Freeman, who leads Huntingdon with four home runs this season, hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning of Game 2 and a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Freeman's second home run pulled Huntingdon within a run, 5-4 in the top of the seventh. But Maryville answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Center fielder Trammell DeJarnett and right fielder Gunnar Peters were both 3-for-7 with a RBI in the two games. Peters also scored one run. Left fielder Patrick Kucera, third baseman Will Pharis and catcher Clark Berry each scored one run in Game 2.

Joseph Fincher (4-1) took the loss in Game 1 and Jackson Cruce (5-2) took the loss in Game 2.
