MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team led 12th-ranked Birmingham-Southern into the ninth inning on Wednesday night but came up short 4-2.
The Hawks (17-11) carried a 2-0 lead into the ninth before the Panthers (22-6) scored four runs to take the lead.
Third baseman Jordan Freeman and second baseman Josh Hines each had two hits in the game for the Hawks. Hines scored the Hawks' first run in the fourth inning. Catcher Clark Berry drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth inning to score J. Gardiner and give Huntingdon a two-run lead.
Starting pitcher Tate Fowler carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a strikeout, a walk and three hits allowed in seven innings. Reliever Neil Lawler (1-1) took the loss in two innings.
Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday with a conference doubleheader against Averett. Game 1 is set for noon.
