Hawks suffer first loss of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team came up short in a 5-2 loss to Maryville on Saturday.

The Hawks (4-1, 4-1 USA South) took Game 1 of the series 9-1 on Friday night. Huntingdon and Maryville (2-4, 1-4 USA South) will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Posey Field.

In Saturday's loss, Huntingdon gave up two runs in the first three innings and three runs in the sixth inning to fall behind 5-0. The Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth but could not rally in the final three innings.

Mason Throneberry had two hits for Huntingdon and Patrick Kucera and Landon Sessions accounted for the Hawks' other two hits. Kucera drove in J. Gardiner for Huntingdon's first run and Alec Raley drove in Sessions for the second run.

Starter Zack Watson (0-1) took the loss in 5 1/3 innings. Reliever Matt Gatewood pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking one.
