Huntingdon earns second conference sweep of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team wrapped up a series sweep against conference rival Greensboro with a 10-5 win on Sunday.

The Hawks (9-3, 9-3 USA South) pounded out 48 hits and scored 42 runs during the three-game series. Huntingdon took the first two games 16-4 and 16-7 on Saturday at Posey Field.

In the final game of the series, Huntingdon scored four runs in the third inning and put the game away with four runs in the final two innings.

Left fielder Alec Raley was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run in Game 3 and third baseman Jordan Freeman was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Four other Hawks finished with multiple hits on Sunday.

Clark Berry had two hits, two RBIs and two runs, Will Pharis had two hits, a RBI and a run and Mason Throneberry and Landon Sessions each had two hits and a run. Anthony Spivey and Dakota Beane each had a RBI and Patrick Kucera scored one run.

Blake Bailey (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Throneberry earned his third save of the season. Starter Jared Gonzalez went four innings, striking out seven, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs.

Huntingdon returns to action at home next weekend with a conference series against Methodist. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
