Huntingdon’s Freeman named NCBWA Division III Hitter of the Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon third baseman Jordan Freeman was named the Division III Hitter of the Week on Thursday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Freeman, who was also recognized this week as the USA South Player of the Week and a member of the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, was 8-for-16 with 10 RBIs, six runs, two home runs and five doubles in a three-game sweep of conference rival Greensboro last weekend. In the first two games of the series, Freeman was 6-for-11 with nine RBIs, four runs, four doubles and a home run.

In 12 games this season, the senior from Prattville, Ala., is batting .415 with 22 hits, 18 RBIs, 15 runs, a .643 slugging percentage, nine doubles and two home runs.

Kyle Rossman (Pacific Lutheran University): Rossman, a right-handed starting pitcher from Puyallup, Wash., handcuffed NWC rival Pacific University of Oregon to just a lone hit in his home debut March 1. The sophomore allowed a base hit to the second batter of the game and then faced 27 straight batters without allowing another. He finished the day with one walk and one hit batter to go with eight strikeouts, as only one runner reached base between the first and eighth frames, due to a throwing error, and was erased on a double play. Of his 90 pitches, the NWC Pitcher of the Week fired 60 strikes in the 14-0 victory.

Jordan Freeman (Huntingdon College): Freeman, a native of Prattville, Ala., went a combined 8-for-16 (.500) with 10 RBIs, six runs scored, five doubles and two home runs, as the Hawks swept a three games series from USA South foe Greensboro last week. In the first two wins, which were played as a doubleheader, the senior infielder and USA South Hitter of the Week went six-for-11 with nine RBIs, four runs scored, four doubles and one home run.

Honorable Mention Hitters: Tiras Koon, Willamette (Ore.) - Batted .545 (6 of 11) in Willamette's series at George Fox, helping the Bearcats win the series 2-1. The lefty swinger hit three home runs, scored five times and recorded seven RBIs … Robbie Lynch, Manhattanville - Started the season off with a bang on March 1, going five for 10 with two homers, nine RBIs and five runs scored as the Valiants split a wild double-header with Plattsburgh by a pair of 16-15 scores.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Kristopher Davis, Elizabethtown - Had a dominant season debut, striking out 15 batters over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Elizabethtown's 12-0 victory over Maritime (N.Y.) Feb. 28. He allowed only five hits and failed to walk a batter.
