Huntingdon falls at home to No. 5 Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up just two hits in the final eight innings but fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern pulled out a 4-3 win at Posey Field on Wednesday night.
The Hawks (14-11) gave up two runs on two hits in the first inning and allowed a single in the fifth inning and a triple in the sixth inning. Tied 3-3 in the sixth, Birmingham-Southern (19-3-1) scored on a wild pitch to take the lead for good.
Neither team managed a hit in the final three innings.
Starter Blake Bailey went five innings for Huntingdon, striking out five, walking five, allowing three hits and three runs. Jackson Cruce (4-2) took the loss in one inning of relief. Zack Watson, Mason Throneberry and Jordan Freeman combined for one strikeout, one walk and no hits in the final three innings.
Left fielder Alec Raley accounted for two of Huntingdon's four hits and finished 2-for-4 with a double and scored the Hawks' first run. Catcher Clark Berry singled to score Anthony Spivey and Will Pharis to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.
Huntingdon returns to action at home on Saturday with a conference doubleheader. Game 1 against William Peace is set for 1 p.m.
