Hawks take two from William Peace

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team won both games of a doubleheader with William Peace on Saturday.

The Hawks won the first game 3-1 and took the second game 4-2. Huntingdon (16-11, 15-8 USA South) and the Pacers (1-21, 1-19 USA South) will close out the three-game series at Posey Field on Sunday at noon.

Sophomore first baseman Will Pharis drove in five of the Hawks' seven runs on Saturday and finished the doubleheader 3-for-7. In Game 2, Pharis tied the game 2-2 with a RBI single in the sixth inning and gave the Hawks the lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In Game 1, Pharis and right fielder Anthony Spivey each drove in a run in the sixth inning. Pharis drove in the final run of the first game in the eighth inning.

Spivey had two hits in Game 1, third baseman Jordan Freeman scored twice and center fielder Patrick Kucera scored once. Freeman scored two runs in the second game and Spivey scored one run.

Jackson Cruce (5-2) picked up the win in Game 1, striking out four, walking one and allowing five hits and one run in 7 1/3 innings. Mason Throneberry pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his sixth save of the season.

Zack Watson (3-2) earned the win in Game 2, striking out two, walking one, scattering nine hits and allowing two runs in eight innings. Kucera pitched the final inning for the save.
