Spivey named USA South Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon junior Anthony Spivey was recognized by the conference with the release of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Spivey was named Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in a doubleheader sweep of Covenant on Saturday. The Hawks won the first game 5-4 and won the second game 12-5.

The Phenix City native was 5-for-8 (.625 batting average) with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored in the two games and finished with a 1.125 slugging percentage. In Game 2, he was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. He hit a three-run home run to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead in the third inning.

The home run was his seventh of the season. For the season, Spivey is third in the USA South in home runs and second with 44 RBIs. He leads Huntingdon with a .372 batting average and a .613 slugging percentage, is second on the team with 51 hits and fourth with 28 runs scored.

 The junior designated hitter from Phenix City, Alabama went a combined 5-for-8 (.625) with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage in a doubleheader sweep of USA South rival Covenant in the team's only action last week. Spivey added a total of five RBI, two runs scored, one double, one home run, one walk and one stolen base in the wins. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Stephens, Piedmont - The Marietta, Georgia senior earned a two wins last week in three relief appearances in a 2-1 week for the Lions. In six innings pitched, Stephens did not allow a run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts. In a 7-6 loss to Oglethorpe, Stephens kept Piedmont in the game by tossing two and one-thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. In two wins over USA South foe Greensboro, Stephens picked up his two victories by combining to throw three and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit with no walks and three strikeouts. Caleb Bloye, Covenant - The freshman first baseman from Dallas, Georgia went a combined 5-for-10 (.500) with a .545 on-base percentage and a .700 slugging percentage to go along with two RBI, one run scored, two doubles and one walk in an 0-3 week for the Scots. In a 10-0 loss to Emory, Bloye was 1-for-3 with one double and one walk. In two losses to USA South foe Huntingdon, Bloye was a combined 4-for-7 with two RBI, one run scored and one double. Also Nominated: Dakota Beane, Huntingdon; Kyle Vidano, Averett; Evan Ezell, Maryville.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Evan Heffner, Maryville - The Ponte Vedra, Florida freshman earned one win last week as he appeared in two games, both in relief. In five innings pitched, Heffner allowed just one run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. In a 3-1 loss at Division-I Northern Kentucky, Heffner tossed two innings and allowed one run on three hits. In an 8-0, eight inning, win over USA South foe Averett, Heffner pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walk with two strikeouts en route to the earning the victory.
