Hawks fall to third-ranked Emory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team fell to third-ranked Emory University 4-1 on Friday night.

The Hawks (8-3) gave up a run early but the game was tied 1-1 going into the sixth inning. The Eagles (7-2) scored three runs in the final four innings to take the first game of the three-game series

Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Posey Field. The Hawks will travel to Emory for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday to close out the series.

Friday was Huntingdon's third straight game against a top-10 team. The Hawks fell to seventh-ranked Rhodes College and defeated fifth-ranked Webster University last weekend.

C.J. Sauce (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Zack Watson on Friday. Watson struck out three, walked five and gave up three hits and one run in five innings of work. Matt Gatewood pitched the final three innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing two hits and one run.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Huntingdon tied the game when Landon Sessions scored on a ground out by Anthony Spivey. Sessions was the only Hawk with multiple hits and finished 2-for-3.
