Third-ranked Emory rallies late to edge Hawks

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon baseball team built a three-run lead in the seventh inning, but third-ranked Emory rallied to beat the Hawks 8-6 on Sunday.
The Eagles took the first two games of the series, winning 4-1 on Friday night and 6-0 on Saturday.
Huntingdon (8-5) took a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh when Patrick Kucera scored on a wild pitch. But Emory (9-2) answered with six runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Huntingdon managed one more run in the eighth inning. Trailing 8-5 with two outs, Mason Throneberry stole home to make it a two-run game. But that was as close as the Hawks could get.
Throneberry was the second Hawk to steal home in the game. Jay Jordan stole home for Huntingdon's first run of the game in the third inning. Huntingdon took a 3-1 lead in the third inning on a pair of Emory errors. Landon Sessions scored on an error to make it 2-1 and Alec Raley scored on an error to make it 3-1.
In the fifth inning, Kucera scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Criswell to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead.
Six Hawks finished with one hit. Kucera scored two runs and stole two bases.
Jared Gonzalez (2-1) took the loss for the Hawks in six innings of work.
Huntingdon travels to Belhaven on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
