Hawks fall to Oglethorpe in 10 innings

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon baseball team built an eight-run lead early but couldn't hold off Oglethorpe in a 12-11 loss in 10 innings on Tuesday night.

The Hawks (17-12) led 8-0 in the third inning and 11-8 in the ninth inning before the Stormy Petrels (14-13) tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the ninth and won in the bottom of the 10th.

Five players combined for 13 of the Hawks' 17 hits, with Mason Throneberry and Alec Raley combining for seven hits, six RBIs and three runs.

Throneberry was 4-for-6 with two RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases. Throneberry (0-1) also took the loss in relief. Raley was 3-for-6 with four RBIs.

Patrick Kucera, Jordan Criswell and Landon Sessions each had two hits. Kucera had a triple, an RBI and a run, Criswell had a solo home run, an RBI and two runs and Sessions finished with two runs and two stolen bases.

Cody Shoemaker and Josh Hines each had an RBI and a run and Anthony Spivey scored one run.

The Hawks return to action at home this weekend with a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series against Covenant. Game 1 is set for Friday night at 6 p.m.
