Former Huntingdon standout joins Double-A Mississippi Braves

PEARL, Miss. – Former Huntingdon catcher Joseph Odom made his Double-A debut this week.

Odom joined the Mississippi Braves on Thursday and earned his first start in Double-A in an 8-3 loss to the Jacksonville Suns. Odom scored one run in the game.

A 13th-round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2013, Odom began this season with the Carolina Mudcats in High-Class A. In 52 games with the Mudcats, he batted .292 with 56 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 29 RBIs and 30 runs. In June alone, he batted .313 with 10 extra-base hits and five home runs.

A native of Vestavia Hills, Ala., Odom spent 2014 and 2015 in High-Class A with the Lynchburg Hillcats and the Mudcats. In 2015, Odom batted .222 with seven home runs, 16 doubles and 40 RBIs and was one of seven players in the Braves organization to be selected to play in the Arizona Fall League.
