Huntingdon comes up short against Washington and Lee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team rallied from an early deficit but came up short in a 10-5 loss to Washington and Lee on Wednesday.

The Generals (3-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first four innings before Huntingdon (2-7) battled back and made it a three-run game, 8-5, in the sixth inning. Huntingdon loaded the bases twice in the final three innings but was unable to push a run across in the seventh inning or in the bottom of the ninth.

Washington and Lee added its final two runs in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Huntingdon reliever Joseph Calvert closed the inning with three straight strikeouts.

Calvert finished with four strikeouts, a walk and allowed two hits in two innings. Starter Jeremy Peterson (0-2) took the loss.

Freshman Wes Powell finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run to lead the Hawks. Corey Lowe, Will Cosby and Taylor Fought each had one RBI. Fought, Lowe, Calvert and Garrett Breland each scored one run.

Huntingdon hosts fourth-ranked Emory on Friday at 6 p.m.
