Hawks fall to No. 4 Emory University

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team held fourth-ranked Emory University to two hits in the final five innings but lost 5-1 on Saturday.

Huntingdon fell behind 3-0 in the first two innings but answered with a run in the bottom of the third inning as Wes Powell scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Headley. Emory made it 4-1 in the fourth inning and added a final run in the eighth inning.

The Hawks had opportunities but ended six innings with runners stranded in scoring position.

After giving up nine hits and four runs in the first four innings, Huntingdon (2-9) limited Emory (9-0) to four base runners and one unearned run in the final five innings.

Senior C.J. Sauce pitched the final 5 1/3 innings, striking out four, walking two, scattering three hits and allowing one unearned run. Senior Matt Gatewood (1-2) took the loss.

Headley and Powell combined for four of the Hawks' seven hits and finished with two hits apiece.

Huntingdon will close out the series with Emory in Atlanta on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Central
