Fourth-ranked Emory rallies late to get by Hawks

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon baseball team took a two-run lead into the seventh inning on Sunday before fourth-ranked Emory University rallied for a 9-6 win.

Huntingdon (2-10) scored five runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead. But Emory (10-0) answered with four runs in the seventh inning and one run in the eighth.

Huntingdon freshman Wes Powell finished with three RBIs and a run on a 3-for-4 day. Powell's two-run single in the fifth inning brought in the Hawks' first two runs.

Garrett Headley had an RBI double and Cade Conville had one RBI. Cody Shoemaker scored two runs and Hunter Long, Josh Hines and Michael Rodda each scored one run.

Carden Mellown (0-2) took the loss in 6 2/3 innings.

Huntingdon travels to sixth-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.
