Hawks fall to 10th-ranked LaGrange in bottom of the 9th

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team took 10th-ranked LaGrange College to the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday before falling 3-2.

The Panthers scored the winning run on a bases-loaded bunt.

Huntingdon (4-12, 2-2 USA South) and LaGrange (16-2, 6-1 USA South) will wrap up the conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m.

Senior Zach McGrady (1-5) took the loss for the Hawks, despite frustrating LaGrange and holding the Panthers well below their season averages for runs and hits. LaGrange entered the game averaging 8.8 runs per game and 11.5 hits per game.

McGrady pitched his third complete game of the season and finished with four strikeouts, three walks, seven hits and allowed two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings. McGrady and the Huntingdon defense held LaGrange to four hits through seven innings.

LaGrange scored its first two runs in the fourth inning. Huntingdon answered with one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning to tie the game.

Huntingdon's Will Cosby drove in Logan Gildea with an RBI single in the fifth inning and junior Joseph Calvert scored on an error in the sixth inning to tie the game.
