Hawks shut out Stevens Institute of Technology

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball earned its first shutout of the season with a 5-0 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday.

The Hawks (5-14) scored three runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning and five pitchers combined to strike out nine, walk two and allow five hits in the shutout.

Senior pitcher C.J. Sauce (2-1) earned the win, striking out four and allowing one hit in two innings. Senior Wes Nail, freshman Ryan Smith and senior Zach McGrady each pitched two innings and combined for three strikeouts and four hits allowed. Junior Joseph Calvert closed the game with two strikeouts, a walk and no hits in the final inning.

Senior Cade Conville was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and was the only Hawk with multiple hits. Conville scored on a Will Cosby single in the second inning to make it 3-0 and had an RBI single in the third inning to make it a 5-0 game.

Wes Powell scored twice and had an RBI for the Hawks and Chris Fisher drove in one run and scored one run. Garrett Headley and Cosby each had one RBI and Michael Rodda scored one run.

Huntingdon returns to action at Posey Field this weekend against Piedmont. Game 1 of the three-game conference series is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
