Hawks come up short at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday and fell to Rhodes College 4-1.

Rhodes (11-11) scored two runs in the third inning, one in the fifth inning and one in the eighth inning.

Trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning, Huntingdon (7-16) scored its only run when Josh Jackson scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Long. Garrett Headley was the only Hawk with multiple hits and finished 2-for-4.

Carden Mellown (0-4) took the loss in 2 2/3 innings, striking out two, walking four, hitting one batter and allowing one hit and two earned runs. Relief pitchers C.J. Sauce, Patrick Sawyer and Ryan Smith combined for two strikeouts, four walks, one hit batter, four hits and two earned runs.

Huntingdon returns to action at home this weekend with a three-game series against USA South Athletic Conference rival Maryville. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. on Friday at Posey Field.
