Hawks drop Game 2 of Maryville series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team lost to Maryville College 11-7 on Saturday in Game 2 of a three-game conference series.

Game 3 is scheduled for noon on Sunday, but the start time is subject to change due to the weather forecast. If a time change is needed, the decision will be made Sunday morning and posted on www.HuntingdonHawks.com and social media.

In Saturday's loss, Huntingdon (8-17, 5-6 USA South) rallied from an early four-run deficit and led 5-4 entering the fifth inning. Maryville (15-13, 8-6 USA South) regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. The Scots scored in three of the final four innings to extend their lead to 11-5 before Huntingdon scored two late runs.

After recording 11 hits in Friday's 10-5 win over the Scots, Huntingdon again had 11 hits on Saturday. But the Hawks could not capitalize with runners in scoring position. Huntingdon ended four innings with runners on second and third.

Junior Taylor Fought led Huntingdon with a solo home run, three RBIs and a run on a 4-for-4 day. Freshman Wes Powell was 2-for-3 with a run.

Senior Kevin Barnett and junior Josh Jackson each had an RBI and a run and junior Joseph Calvert and freshman Garrett Breland each had one RBI. Juniors Garrett Headley and Chandler DeRieux and senior Cody Shoemaker each scored one run.

Senior C.J. Sauce (2-3) took the loss in five innings of relief. Sauce struck out five, walked five, hit one batter and allowed three hits and three earned runs.
