Seventh inning trips up Hawks in loss at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up six runs in the seventh inning and lost to Covenant College 9-4 on Friday.

The Hawks led 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh before the Scots used five hits and an error to take the lead for good.

Huntingdon (9-19, 6-7 USA South) and Covenant (11-16, 4-9 USA South) will close out the USA South Athletic Conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m. (Central).

On Friday, the Hawks scored two runs in the first inning as Joseph Calvert and Luke Ates each scored on errors. Covenant tied the game in the third inning and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh, solo home runs by Taylor Fought and Corey Lowe put the Hawks in front 4-3. But Covenant answered in the bottom of the seventh.

Fought and Calvert were each 3-for-5 and combined for six of the Hawks' 10 hits.

Zach McGrady (3-6) took the loss in six innings.
