Huntingdon loses to 23rd-ranked Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team fell to 23rd-ranked Birmingham-Southern 9-3 on Wednesday night.

The Hawks gave up three runs in the second inning and trailed 8-1 after five innings.

Will Cosby scored all three runs for the Hawks and stole three bases. Cosby scored the Hawks' first run on ground out by Jud Owens in the fourth inning. The final two runs came on a pair of sacrifice flies by Joseph Calvert in the sixth and eighth innings. Bradley Harris finished with two hits and was the only Hawk with multiple hits.

Six pitchers took the mound for Huntingdon and combined for 14 strikeouts, seven walks, 11 hits and six earned runs allowed. Starting pitcher Jared McFall (1-1) took the loss, striking out three, walking three, allowing two hits and one earned run in two innings.

Among the other pitching highlights, Ethan Hess had two strikeouts and a walk in one scoreless inning and Calvert struck out four and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action with a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series at Maryville this weekend. Game 1 is set for 3 p.m. (Central) on Friday.
